There are so many things you can do with a technology center in all subject areas! This post will focus on listening center ideas. I have come across a lot of great resources I use for technology centers helpful in other areas of ELA and other subject areas, but I will cover those in future posts!
Listening to Reading
There are tons of websites out there that offer stories read aloud! I thought I'd compile them into one easy to find list! They are all FREE (my favorite four letter word)!
- Storyline Online: Founded by the Screen Actors Guild, this site includes 25 children's books read aloud by actors. The expression they use to tell the stories is PHENOMENAL! Great for younger/struggling readers to listen to a fluent reading of a story! Some of my favorite children's books are among the 25, check it out!
- Online Storytime by Barnes and Noble: This site includes 16 books read aloud by author's and actors. I know I mentioned that there were some great titles on the above website, but there are also some really wonderful books on this one!
- Tumble Books: This site is available for free on many local public library websites. Check to see if your local library is a member of Tumble Books and you can have access too!
- Kids Online (by AOL):This site has 40 books read aloud. These books are geared toward younger student, but even my 3rd graders love listening to the 15 books featuring our favorite aardvark!
- Read to Me:This is another great site! 18 popular children's books are read aloud by various public figures.
- Just Books Read Aloud:This website has a collection of 284 children's books read aloud. The videos are read aloud by the same woman. They are not as high quality as some of the above websites, but she does a nice job reading and the selection is large!
- Reading Planet: There are not as many stories on this site. Some are "story songs".
- Story Time for Me: This is a newer website. There are 3 series available. I have viewed a few stories on my own, but I haven't used them stories in my classroom, because the interest level seems to be geared towards PK-1. Navigating this site is a little confusing, the links at the top of the homepage will bring you to a search engine with ads, you need to scroll down to the fox, dragon, and mouse pictures to get to those stories.
I hope these links can be helpful to you! Feel free to share other links you use that I have not included! The more free resources the better! I would love to keep this list growing.

ReplyDeleteHi, you should check out: www.wegivebooks.com. All you need to do is create a username and password, then you have access to baby-10 yrs. age range of books. My family loves this because it gives my reader a chance to browse and read on his own, and it also allows for me to read to my younger ones. It does not have audio capabilities. So, it may not work for your intended listening center? But it's too awesome not to share! :)
