Happy Hopping!

The end of the year is near! That means it's time to get creative to keep our kiddos engaged and learning those last few weeks of school! I LOVE to do reader's theater with my kiddos at the end of the year! I use free reader's theater scripts that I find online (I try to get ones for books I have in our classroom library).

We start with a read aloud of the book that the scripts come from. I then break the kiddos into small groups so each student has a part and once they have practiced a few days and are comfortable with the scripts, they can go around to other classrooms and perform for other students! This is their favorite part!

There are SO many things that I love about readers theater! It enhances students' reading skills and boosts their confidence and understanding of the story through repeated readings. They are very willing to reread their scripts over and over, when their typical response to repeated reading is less than enthusiastic (Shhh... This is a GREAT fluency activity!). Reader's theater is fun, motivating, and many reluctant reader's jump right into it!

Here are some FREEBIE reader's theater scripts:

Margie Palatini - These are my kids FAVORITE reader's theater scripts! Margie Palatini's books are SO funny and fun to act out!
